Ask the Resident (Sex) Advisor

The Resident Sex Advisor answers sex-related questions from college students

Dear RSA,
My boyfriend and I both graduated from high school last year and this fall we went to different colleges in different states. He promised he would be faithful to me until we saw each other again during winter break, but he seems distracted when we talk on the phone and I'm already having my doubts about him. He's the only guy I've ever gone all the way with. What should I do?
Christina, U. of Colorado

Honey, I hate to break this to you, but whatever he has been telling you, by now your boyfriend has gone through at least three new girls already. This is just how guys are, especially college freshman guys.

Long distance relationships, especially at your age, and with all the temptations offered by campus life, just do not work. You need to let him go and move on with your life. Chances are you boyfriend is taking you for granted because you are naive and a sure thing for him when he comes home and wants some Christmas nookie. But there are plenty of young men all around you who will be more than willing to lavish attention on you in the here and now. Be grateful for the experience you've gained, but cut your high school flame loose and start enjoying the bounty at hand.
